PHYSIOTHERAPY REHABILITATIONPhysiotherapy is an integral part of most treatments for articular cartilage defects in the knee. Appropriate physiotherapy will promote healing and maximise recovery without causing further damage. Andrea Bailey and colleagues at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital have developed a series of rehabilitation protocols to suit the various treatments and locations of defects included in ACTIVE. If you are a Physiotherapist involved in the rehabilitation of ACTIVE patients it is important to follow the appropriate protocol for your patients as outlined in these documents:

Patient Advice LeafletsPatients leaving hospital find it helpful to take one of Andrea's advice leaflets with them. The leaflets are tailored to the specific type of surgery and site of defect and illustrate various exercises patients should work on and sets clear goals to achieve throughout the rehabilitation period. The patient advice leaflets are available below and you may wish to refer your patients to this web page. If you would like a pack of leaflets posting to you please contact the Trial Manager.
